What to Expect
The process of getting started with therapy can be confusing or intimidating, especially for those who have not been in therapy before. I thought it might be helpful to lay out what to expect step by step.
For prospective new clients, you would first reach out for a free phone consultation. This brief call helps with getting to know each other, understanding your needs, and determining if we could be a good fit before we schedule an initial session.
If both you and I feel we could be a good fit to work together following the phone consultation, we will then schedule an hour-long, virtual initial session (this is called an "intake"), in which we will dive deeper into your concerns, review your history, explore your goals, and ultimately determine whether we will proceed with therapy together.
Prior to the intake, I will send you some virtual paperwork to complete in advance of the appointment, including various consent forms and questionnaires. These forms provide you with information about my practice and policies, and provide me with helpful background information about you.
Should we decide to proceed with therapy after the intake, we will at that point discuss further what therapy may entail, frequency/duration of sessions, and other relevant details.
